alisa popova alisa got her BA with a major in dance at the university of washington, seattle campus, in 2010. She has since been slowly DISCOVERING that making art, in particular live performance, is inexplicably inevitable in her life, and often feels like art just “happens” to her, kind of like puking. in 2014 alisa completed a massage therapy program, and a yoga teacher program in 2015. a fascination with the body is a persisting theme in alisa's life. in january of 2019, Alisa began training with seattle sil lum in Tai chi and kung fu, physical training currently being a big interest, as another branch of the "body" theme.
the overarching theme however, in both art and life, is Alisa's SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH THROUGH THE EXPLORATION AND SUBSEQUENT SHEDDING OF THE LAYERS OF THE SELF, WHICH INCLUDES BODY, MIND, SPIRIT, AND BEYOND. alisa's live art tends to deal with surprise and the unexpected, juxtaposition and extremes, and is often comedic and/or dark.
Also, sometimes alisa just likes to dance and doesn't care to explain herself.
